Junior Football at ICA Sports.... season 2019/20

Andy Reinis4 Jun 2020 - 08:49

Coronavirus may have stopped us but still plenty to look back on!

2019/20 may have come to a premature end for our junior boys and girls teams but lets not stop that celebrating what our teams have done this season!

BOYS FOOTBALL

We fielded 4 teams in the Peterborough & District Junior Alliance this season.

Our Under 9 Blue team continued to grow and enjoy the game, having added some new players to the team in the summer in their first season of 7 a side.

We also added a second Under 9 team last summer, and this Under 9 White team went from strength to strength. Many players who were new to football last summer were playing some great football and challenging at the top end of their Hereward Cup group at the time the season was suspended.

The Under 10s team were also playing some excellent football, and were sat at the top of their Hereward Cup group at the time of suspension with a 100% record would have been hopeful of making the knockout stages of the competition. We look forward to watching them continue to develop as they move to 9 a side football next season!

Our Under 13s team were competing in Division 5 at their age group and in the thick of a promotion battle, in second place in the division. Well done too to Elliott Roddis, who was the divisional top scorer with an incredible 28 goals in just 10 competitive games.
All leagues in the Junior Alliance were declared null and void on ending the season.

We also fielded an Under 15s team in the Peterborough & District Youth Football League, and they were challenging in a very tight Division 1 of this league with only 3 league defeats all season. They made the Quarter Finals of the League Cup and had also made the Quarter Finals of the PSFDF Cup in a game that had yet to be played prior to the suspension and subsequent cancellation of all football. Like the Junior Alliance, the Youth League also declared the season to be null and void.

GIRLS FOOTBALL

We also saw lots of success in the 7 junior girls teams that competed this season. The Under 16 team competed in the Macron Northamptonshire Girls Football League for the first time, while the other teams all compete in the S-Tech Cambridgeshire Girls Football League.

Our youngest team in the club, the Under 8 Girls team, are building a strong foundation and developing really well. Some of the team competed as Under 8s in the season 2018/19 and were playing in their second season and with the addition of new faces really impressed with their enthusiasm, their goal scoring and the quality of their football.

Our Under 9 team was newly formed last summer and delivered a series of eye catching performances. It's fair to say the girls like to attack and look to score goals at all times! They had a brilliant first season and looking forward to a new challenge at 7 a side next season.

The Under 10 team competed in their second season as a team with the addition of several new players as they moved to 7 a side, and consolidated all they had learnt in their first season. The girls really impressed with the way that they play football, which will stand them in good stead for the future!

The Under 11 team had their first taste of competitive football this season and were very unfortunate to finish 2nd in their very competitive League Cup group. They move up to 9 a side football next season with confidence!

Unlike the leagues all our other clubs compete in, the Cambridgeshire Girls League elected to end their seasons on a points per game basis. Our Under 12 team followed up last season's successful season where they reached the league cup final, by finishing in 2nd place in the Under 12 White Division. They had the same number of points of eventual winners Leverington, but from one game more. Having also reached semi finals of both the League Cup and the Hunts FA Cup and with 8 games still to go in the league, they were in a great place for further success playing an attractive brand of attacking football.

The Under 13 team consolidated in midtable of the B division and are looking to push on next season as they move to 11 a side football. The girls also made the quarter final of the League Cup and gave a great account of themselves against opponents from the division above.

The Under 16 team followed up their Cambridgeshire League and Cup double winning season by leading the Northamptonshire Girls League when the season was ended and declared null and void, ahead of fellow former Cambridgeshire League rivals Cambridge City, local rivals Glinton & Northborough, and a successful AFC Rushden & Diamonds team. Several players made their debuts in the senior Women's team, and they will play their final season as a youth team next season in the Cambridgeshire Under 18s league.

We had girls from across the age groups playing in local PDPs at places like Peterborough United, and also at Futsal, where Under 12 Holly Plummer and Under 13 Calleigh Coull represented England at a tournament in Spain.

Well done to all of our Junior teams, and we can't wait to see what the future holds!

Thank you too for everyone for their support and to our sponsors.
